Need a Flu Jab?

The flu. It’s one of those nasty diseases which can strike any one of us each winter, and it’s highly infectious, so it’s very easy to pass on to those around us. The effects of flu can be devastating, but by getting the flu jab you can stop flu in its tracks before it harms you or your family.

Flu isn’t the same as the common cold; caused by a different group of viruses spread through the air, flu is a serious condition and can cause mild to serious illness and even death. Symptoms can be severe and last for several weeks.

At Your Health we offer a private Flu Jab Service between September and March at The New QEII. You don’t need an appointment, we’ll simply ask a few questions to see if you are eligible and your jab will be administered by a qualified pharmacist in the privacy of the consultation room. Hassle free.

Some patients may be eligible for a free flu jab on the NHS. If this is the case then we will direct you to the nearest pharmacy offering this service.

Sexual Health

At Your Health, our discreet and knowledgeable pharmacists offer free confidential advice on sexual health.

The Emergency Contraceptive Pill

If you’ve had sex without contraception or you think it didn’t work, the emergency contraceptive pill is safe and effective ways to prevent pregnancy. Anyone under the age of 25 can get the emergency contraceptive pill for free.

The Emergency Contraceptive pill Levonelle contains levonorgestrel, a synthetic version of the natural hormone progesterone and it works primarily by preventing or delaying ovulation. It does not interfere with your regular method of contraception.

Levonelle should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex. It can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex but, the sooner, the better.

An alternative to Levonelle is EllaOne. EllaOne contains ulipristal acetate, which acts by modifying the activity of the natural hormone progesterone which is necessary for ovulation to occur. As a result, this medicine works by postponing ovulation. EllaOne can be taken up to 5 days after unprotected sex but again like Levonelle, it should be taken as soon as possible to be most effective.

Chlamydia Testing

We also offer a free, confidential, Chlamydia testing service.

You’ll be provided with a kit with full instructions on how to take a urine sample or vaginal swab in your own home and how to send the sample off for laboratory testing. Following testing the laboratory will contact you with the result.
